My Example:

Si tengo que tomar una decisión, me gusta escribir las ventajas y las desventajas de cada elección. Normalmente, la decisión queda clara después de hacer eso.

If I have to make a decision, I like to write down the advantages and disadvantages of each choice. Usually, the decision becomes clear after doing this.

As a tennis player it could be seen as an advantage if you are tall. Como jugador de tenis , seria una ventaja si fueras alto.

This morning my mobile phone has fallen into a bucket with water. It would have been an advantage if I had had a waterproof mobile.

Corrected: This morning my mobile phone fell into a bucket of water. It would have been better if I had had a waterproof mobile.

Another possibility: This morning my mobile phone had fallen into a bucket of water. It would have been to my advantage if I had had a waterproof mobile.

Esta mañana, mi móvil se ha caído en un cubo con agua. Habría sido una ventaja si hubiera tenido un móvil resistente al agua.

How do I expression these two different meanings in Spanish: "my love for the language (meaning Spanish)" and "my love for language(all languages in general)"? Gracias - JazSpanish, Feb 10, 2012
Mi amor del idioma o la lengua vs. Mi amor de los idiomas o mi amor para los idiomas...I hope this answers your question. - drvicente, Feb 10, 2012
Gracias a Dr V, just to make sure I understand it correctly, do you mean to use the singular to refer to a specific language (the context will tell which language it is), and to use the plural to refer to languages in general? - JazSpanish, Feb 10, 2012
Thanks drvicente , that was more difficult than i thought . - ray76, Feb 10, 2012
Jasmine ," how do I express these " or " what is the expression for " And Hi to you ! - ray76, Feb 10, 2012
Yes Jasmine..you are correct.. - drvicente, Feb 10, 2012
I'd say that: Mi gran ventaja *en el aprendisaje del* español es mi amor *por el* idioma. it's the correct sentence. - ytotrip, Feb 10, 2012
Also! You can say: "Mi gran ventaja *a la hora de aprender* español es mi amor por el mismo/idioma" it's a perfect "idiomatic" expression! - ytotrip, Feb 10, 2012

Nadal wins match point having already won the advantage!

= ¡Nadal gana punto para partido ya ha ganado la ventaja!

Editor's note: This is almost true! Nadal has just won the game but in different circumstances, having just won the tie break! I could not find a picture that illustrated exactly the idea I wanted but felt that this picture sums up well his sense of victory being close! He is my favourite world tennis player! grin

Original sentence:

¡Nadal gane punto para partido ya haber ganado la ventaja!

Se puede emplear esta palabra en una carrera, por ejemplo lleva una ventaja de diez segundos.

You can use this word in a race, for example she has a ten-second lead.
