Why am I unable to upload an avatar?
I've tried several formats and sizes, some as small as 50x50. But when I hit the Update Profile button (after having Browsed my computer for the image) it will always take me to the exact same Edit Profile screen but still no avatar has been uploaded. It does give me a nice green Update Succesful message but nothing succesful has happened.
Could someone please help me? I have the feeling that I'm missing something extremely obvious.
Note that this has been a problem for a year, not just since website was updated.

This is a bug with the new version of the site which was brought out of beta almost immediately without fixing all of the reported problems let alone the ones we hadn´t noticed yet.
When the site is working again.. Are you sure it? a Jpeg and not a png or some other type of image?
are you sure it? 50 x 50 and not 50 x 51?
Are you sure that it's not somehow really huge in file size even though it's dimensions are really small?

Assuming that the image was in one of the acceptable compressed formats (png, gif, etc.) and not an uncompressed format (bmp, etc), then does your firewall or browser have restrictions placed on your uploads? Can you upload the image successfully to an image hosting site like Photobucket, Skydrive, etc.?
Try saving an online image to your computer's hard drive and then try uploading that image as an avatar (you can change it later). This will rule out the picture having too heavy a density or too much metadata from your particular image software. Is the photo from a newer, high resolution (Megapixels) digital camera?
What is the file extension of the image? (tif, jpeg ??)
