My Example:

When I lose my remote control, my first thought is always to blame my dogs.

Remote controls for TVs have more and more buttons, although I always use the same ones.

Muchas gracias por la corrección, Vicente. What triggers the subjunctive here? Is it the use of "doubt"? Or is it the impersonal? - ajaks, Feb 7, 2012
- drvicente, Feb 9, 2012

If you think you're in control, have children. You'll soon find you're not.

Si piensas estar al mando, tengo hijos. Pronto descubrirás que no es así.

...estar al mando. Tenga hijos. Pronto descubrirás que no es así. - drvicente, Feb 7, 2012
I'm confused by you correctivos. Is there some reason you made the end of the first sentence separate? And why tenga? - Leatha, Feb 7, 2012
Leatha: Your statement says "tengo hijos" = 'I have children." What you want to say is to tell the reader that _they_ should have children, hence I believe a command / imperativo / mandato: - Xocoyote, Feb 7, 2012
What I had was "tiene hijo" but I changed it according to Vicente's corrections. That's why I'm confused. - Leatha, Feb 8, 2012

My dog pretends to listen properly to my commands but he doesn't carry out the orders, he just carries on minding his own dog-business.

Sometimes, we all feel like we lose control.

Thanks, Jr and Dr... imperfect subjunctive, huh? I guess I can see why now... since it's something done "sometimes" or "at times" in the past. - Tosh, Feb 7, 2012
No Tosh the formula is "como si + imperfect subjunctive...( it is a subjective/hypothetical statement..I feel as if I lost..did I or didn't I lose?) - drvicente, Feb 7, 2012
Sorry! I missed the "si" in your correction. I was on my iPhone and it was too small. - Tosh, Feb 7, 2012

Before you take the control of people, learn how to love them and to let them love you too.

I think "querer" would be better than "amar" here because "amar" implies a passionate love between two people. "Querer" is more general. - Netjert, Feb 7, 2012
- drvicente, Feb 7, 2012

Dear drvicente, why you suggest the formal imperative (ame) instead of the informal imperative (ama), since my sentence as a whole is informal? - Mndeen75, Feb 8, 2012

Para mando respecto uno debe lo darle. - To command respect one must give it.alt text

correction: Si te quiere mando respeto tu debe darlo. - If you want to command respect you must give it.

Creo que: Is not "mando" a noun here and not a verb? Also, "respeto" not "respecto". Should the impersonal se be used as well? Para mandar respeto, se debe darlo. (se lo debe dar) - Xocoyote, Feb 7, 2012
Please try again..like coyote said, you can not use a noun in place of a verb.. - drvicente, Feb 7, 2012
Once again you are trying to use a noun as a verb. How about one more time for the home team? - drvicente, Feb 9, 2012
