A dónde vas? Where are you going? The "A" means to. ¿De dónde eres? Where do you come from? i.e. what's your nationality.¿dónde vives? Where do you live? And finally the non interragative donde. Está es la casa donde vivia. That is the house where I used to live Note that in the last example the donde doesn't carry a stress over the "O". .

There are a few of these articles online discussing the difference between adonde, a donde, a dónde and adónde.

a donde=adonde a dónde=adónde (same meanings whether one word or two)

También aquí son igual de correctas la variante en una palabra (9) y en dos (10):

Es igual de correcta la grafía en una palabra (1), (3) o en dos (2), (4):

Hmmm, now I'm curious about this too. The question was:

How do I know whether to use Donde or Adonde?

But in the answer you discuss A donde, etc. Is there a difference in the use of the word Adonde (all one word) and Donde? If so, what is the difference and how are the two words used differently? Or is Adonde the same as A donde?
