OK, here is an example of a peífrasis with "a" between two verbs.
Ella rompió a llorar.
The verb "romper" is not literal here, she didn't "break" anything, rather she suddenly began crying. This makes it an example of a perífrasis.

Hi and welcome to the forum. This is a vague question. Do you have a particular perífrasis in mind? Did you mean to say, "When do we have to put an "a"...?
