Has tí (with an accent) become acceptable?

Question

We all know that ti never carries an accent, yet I see it ALL over the place.

People writing to me at work.

In lessons (even on this site).

I saw it in a manual the other day.

I just saw "por tí" on a website teaching Spanish.

For the heck of it, I just tried it in Google Translate and it didn't try to correct it.

Is it so widely misused that it is just ignored?

I would say overlooked rather than ignored. I sometimes have to look very hard to even notice that the "i" has an accent mark over it, so it's easily missed. Also, so many people make the mistake because they think it's correct, which is also why many people don't correct it either.

Even the RAE acknowledges how frequently people make the mistake:

Es monosílabo y, por tanto, se escribe sin tilde. Debe evitarse el error frecuente de acentuarlo gráficamente (tí), por analogía con los pronombres de primera y tercera personas mí y sí, que, aunque son también monosílabos, requieren la presencia de tilde diacrítica
