Mi sobrina siempre había soñado con tener una mascota. It is confusing because I think soñado is a verb form of some kind but the only verb I can find is soñar which means to sound. If i translate the sentence it doesn't make sense.
- What is the rough translation of this sentense?
- Is haber in the past tense imperfect?
- What type of verb tense is soñado? -

Hi, the word soñar means to dream, sonar means to sound. I think this is the past perfect tense. "My cousin(feminine) has always dreamed of having a pet" - Frank-Pascoe, Feb 2, 2012

This is the past perfect tense, and it translates to "my niece always had dreamed of having a pet."
Había is past perfect with the verb soñar translated in the past participle. Meaning 'Had dreamed'.
