I want to say " On Saturday I took photos of my family" do I use saqué, tomé or hice?

El sábado pasado tomé fotos de mi familia. Is this correct?

In Puerto Rico, people say "tirar una foto". So what you use may depend on where you are and who you're talking to.

I believe that you can use Sacar, tomar o hacer una foto to mean to take a photo of someone.

It would seem that preference for these verbs is regional and that in Spain they prefer sacar or hacer whereas in South and Central America tomar is preferred. Gekko interestingly enough introduces the verb: tirar into the arena which he says is used in Puerto Rico to mean to take a photo!

I have recently posted a response to a similar question and I suggest that you read the responses from Cogumela and Cordobesa who are both natives and fluent in their native language of Spanish. They both come from Spain. Here is a link to the thread entitled can you take a photo of me here please? link text

I hope this helps grin

or just google tomar fotos and see how many sites there are - 0074b507, Jan 31, 2012
Thanks Q but I prefer to check the responses from natives here to similar questions. - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
I would disagree with "hacer". I would use "hacer" if I were making something, like a batch of cookies (Voy a hacer galletas). If I were going to take pictures, I would say "Voy a tomar fotos." - EvaFannon, Jan 31, 2012
Fair enough Eva but I am basing my answers on natives as you can see from following my link and reading Cogmela's and Cordbesa's responses who are also both natives :) - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
I usually say "hacer una foto" . But I am from Spain too. - RaulSpaniard, Jan 31, 2012
On reflection all of you are correct Please read both Gekko's and my own comment about regional differences :) - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012
Thank you Raul :) I am learning Spanish particularly from Spain despite being born in Peru because it is much easier and cheaper to get across to Spain to practise Spanish than it would be to return to my country of birth e - FELIZ77, Jan 31, 2012

Googling I see all 3 used (hacer fotos con la [web] cam), but I think sacar and tomar are used more than hacer.

Your example sentence looks correct.

I would say "El sabado tomé fotos de mi familia." But I don't know if this is correct.
