omitting pronoun

Hola otra vez

I have this sentence ...y también te invita a ti. I wonder if I can remove the pronoun te or a ti without changing the meaning.

You can remove "a ti". You can say "y también te invitó" so.

I would think that the "a ti" can be removed without changing the meaning. Actually, I don't understand what "a ti" means in this case... te seems to be the direct object of this transitive verb. And also he/she invites you....

No. If the a xxx [complemento tónico] contains a personal pronoun rather that a noun (e.g. Pedro) then the "redundant" d.o.p. [or i.o.p.] [pronombre átono] is required.

También invitó a Pedro. (Ok)

También, la invitó a ella. (since the a xxx contains a personal pronoun)

From the R A E Diccionario de Dudas:

5.1. Si el complemento tónico es también un pronombre personal, la coaparición del pronombre átono es obligatoria, tanto si el complemento es directo como indirecto: Me castigaron a mí; A ti te dieron el premio (no *Castigaron a mí; *A ti dieron el premio).

So, bottom line: if the a ti is in your sentence then the te must be also. (however, the te can be there without the a ti.)
