Question

Espanol has too many different ways of saying words than English do. I was watching Telemundo and I saw two "regular" words that I thought I knew the translation of, but I was mistaken. They were "irse" and "llamada".

When I took Spanish class in high school they would always try to get u to conjugate and so teach us "ir" and "llamar" and the different forms of each verb. I feel like it would have been easier to teach us the "irse" and "llamada" first to make it easier on students. It seems easier to go from "call" and then to "to call" and the many forms of "to call."

Just my opinion.

Llamar does mean to call. Please check the dictionary here. Also go to the bottom of the definition for llamar and you will find the conjugation.

Same for ir it means to go.

Of course sometimes the transation of the word in context is different. And when words are used in the reflexive form (or as a pronomial verb) in Spanish there can be completely different translations into English. Irse meaning to leave and llamarse meaning for example "his name is" in se llama.

The noun call happens to be the same as the verb call. This is not the norm in English.

The only reason you find English easy is because it is your first language. Writing "just my opinion" after something does not mean it is okay to say something without putting any thought into it.

Irse = leave and ir = go. I guess you could teach Leave before you teach Go, but I don't see why you would since go is more useful and easier. - rabbitwho, Jan 31, 2012
