Qué significa "Darse cita"?

Dice: ..... Se Han dado cita

Darse cita means to meet, to get together.

Se han dado cita, depending on the context it could mean either they have met (each other) or they have gathered

I've seen 'cita' used for 'appointment'.

Reminds me of the English verb 'to cite', as in 'cited to attend' or 'citation', sometimes used in legal proceedings.

Here is sentence I came across in my Think Spanish magazine:

Aguascalientes es el punto de encuentro donde todos los años, en las últimas semanas de abril y las primeras de mayo, miles de mexicanos y turistas se dan cita para disfrutar de la tradicional Feria de San Marcos.

"Se dan cita" definitely means "gather, converge, get together." I was interested in seeing variations of "se dan cita." For example, would "we get together" be "nos damos cita"?

Even here they are talking about the scheduled fiesta. The "save the date" kind of thing. At least that is my take. - gringojrf, Sep 5, 2014

More correctly, at least I think, is to arrange to meet, as in give each other a date.

I can meet Tuesday at 4pm. Okay that works for me. = Darse cita.

Or as Falda says to have an appointment.

It is not, at least I have never heard it used, to talk about the actual meeting.

It usually means to have an appointment.

Tengo una cita con el dentista a las diez mañana por la mañana. ( I have an appointment at the dentists/with the dentist at ten tomorrow morning.)
