How come some sources state that formal form of How are you?" is ¿Cómo está? and ohters use ¿Cóma está usted? is there any difference? Thank you!

Lol no, both forms are the same... adding Usted is like saying sir/ma'am. está is the usted form of the verb "¿comó está?", adding usted is redundant and just adds emphasis...you would say this if u want to make sure you are being understood as respectful.

Está is the second person formal where estás would be familiar. I don't think usted is mandatory. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

Tú (informal) - You

Usted (formal) - You sometimes abbrev. as just Ud.

Therefore, your question "Cómo está?" is "How are you?"... but "Cómo esta usted?" is just a reinforcement of the YOU, which still means "How are you?"

Similarly, "Cómo estás?" is what you would use to a friend or person of your same age (typically)... The reinforcement of the YOU for this would be "Cómo estás tú?" as stated above.
