I understand that "tenga" and "ten are forms of the subjunctive tener but i dont understand how to use it in a sentence. I also dont understand how you use it when you are voicing a command/warning. Here are some examples:

Por favor, TEN cuidado cuando andas en la bicicleta.

TENGA cuidado cuando maneja en la nieve.

Queremos trabajar en una habitacion que TENGA ventanas.

!Espero que tenga/s un buen día!, or just, "¡Que tenga/s un buen día!" = I hope you have a good day! or Have a good day. With the "s" at the end. is used when you have a established relationship with the person (informal.) Without it, is the formal way to wish someone to have a good day.

  • ¡Ten un buen día! is similar that the sentence above. Used for your husband/wife. Don't use it with your boss, pastor, police officer, etc. It is only used in a very personal way.
  • Ten cuidado... = Again, only to be used with people you are very familiar with.
  • Tenga cuidado... = To be used in a more formal way.
  • ...una habitación que tenga ventanas. This "tenga" is the verb. "tener" (to have)and has nothing to do with formality or informality. It is not related to the "tenga" (Be careful, or make sure of...) that is described above.

Thanks that helps :) but what tense would tenga be in the last example? - MeLlamoWaverly, Jan 25, 2012
This is a transitive verb. The actual verb of the sentence is NOT written. the active verb would be. "Espero que ... un buen día" (I "hope that you have a good day)In other words, It is in the present tense. - farallon7, Jan 25, 2012
