Thank you everyone for the well wishes for this our day of coming together as one nation.. I had a b.b.q. today and there were 4 different nationalities present .We shared memories of our old countries, and told of our endeavours to establish a foothold in this new land . Australia is a land of extremes ,hot one day cold the next .and as the Anthem says droughts and flooding rains, but the thing I like most about being an Australian are the Australians themselves , always ready to lend a hand in times of adversity and hardship. Today I would like to wish everyone a happy Australia Day for in my mind today we are all fair dinkum aussies.
Happy Australia Day!
- And don't forget all the furry and feathered friends who have to put up with the celebrations!
We only loaned you that beautiful country mate, it's about time you gave it us back!
Happy Australia Day!
I have many friends, but only three....Ray, Annie and Koala. If I am forgetting one of our beautiful Australians, feel free to correct me.
In my part of the world it's traditional to make a batch of Lamingtons for Australia Day. So what do you need?
...-stale sponge, some chocolate, some coconut and if you're real lucky some cream - I'd rather have a lamington than the richest black forest tort. We've adopted lamingtons as our own "invention" (invented at a time long ago when no food was wasted - not even stale food) - and, as inventions go, I rank it up there with the Hill's Hoist; another great Aussie design...
All you Aussie Spanishdicters - have a bonzer day!
Today 26th January Australians will come together and celebrate one of our best-loved public holidays Australia Day. Back in the day, Australia Day was all about the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788. But times have changed and these days weve turned Australia Day into more of a celebration of what we love about this big, brown, dusty land: lamb chops on the barbie, blue singlets, mates, lamingtons, thongs, warm weather, meat pies, a couple of cold ones and a swim somewhere. We should also thank the " Indigenous peoples of this land for allowing us to enjoy all that they had preserved , and for being such a peaceful and gentle people.
Even our animals love the surf.
Wow I had no idea! Happy Australia Day to you Ray and Annie and hmmm who else do we have down under?
(Hope you don't mind an interloper in your window yesero - just until I get my "commenting" sorted out! The jennys are Aussies and md (something) - he's a Brizzy lad. And of course we've just about adopted Kiwi-Girl as our own - she's just a hop, skip and a jump across the big ditch...there's probably lots more...-Annie)
Congratulations to all our Stralian friends! Tip one for me, Ray.
Give those Aussies a cold, miserable day and they turn it into a festival
I'll back to the land down under sooner or later. I've yet to see a Koala, Kangaroo or one of those man eating Saltwater Crocodiles. But I didn't manage to steal about 200 dollars in Australian coins that are sitting on my desk lol.
My Australian neighbour has been regaling me with stories about life back home. I must say I'm jealous of the sunshine, beaches and lifestyle. Everything sounds brilliant (A typical pommie word according to her ). Well.... brilliant apart from the bloody huntsman spiders and taipan snakes! You'd soon see me screaming off back to England!
My best wishes to all the good folks in Australia. I hope you all have a bonzer day.
Happy Australia Day to all our Aussie friends on SD!
