This thread is kindly moderated by cordobesa. Please correct your posts according to cordobesa’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile. (Dr. Vicente is away, and will return soon… )

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs should not be longer than 1 1/2 lines but can have up to 3 line for practice.
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

Quiero llegar al fondo de esta pregunta – ¿cuál fue primero, el pollo o el huevo?

I want to get to the bottom of this question – which came first, the chicken or the egg?

"¡Viaje al Fondo del Mar! fue una de mis series favoritas cuando era niña. ¡Casi puedo oír la música de la serie!

(Muchas gracias Cordobesa smile )

("Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea!" was one of my favourite television series when I was a child. I can almost hear the theme music!

I found the last dark chocolate bar at the back of the cupboard.

Encontré el último chocolate negro al fondo del armario de la cocina.

Although sometimes they don't get along, at bottom they are good friends.

With corrections: "Although sometimes they don't get along, the bottom line is, they are good friends"

or "Sometimes they don't get along, but deep down they are good friends"

Aunque algunas veces no se lleven bien, en el fondo son buenos amigos.

Cordobesa, the English structure is good but not likely to be used this way in the US, perhaps in England. - Yeser007, Jan 25, 2012
I would say ...don't get along, the bottom line is, they are good friends. - Yeser007, Jan 25, 2012
¡Muchas gracias! ¡Una cosa más que he aprendido gracias a vosotros! :) - Cordobesa, Jan 25, 2012
Cordobesa, you can also say ''but deep down they are friends..' - annierats, Jan 25, 2012

A veces, tendrá que elegir del fondo del barril (elegir entre los restos).

Sometimes, you will have to choose from the bottom of the barrel.

* in English, this means "that there is nothing good left to pick from"... wondering if it means the same in Spanish. - Tosh, Jan 25, 2012
Thanks for your explanation, Tosh! Nunca lo había oído, ni en español ni en inglés (I usually say "elegir entre los restos"). ¡Pero lo has escrito perfectamente! :) - Cordobesa, Jan 25, 2012
Gracias por el cumplido! He añadido tu frase, también. - Tosh, Jan 25, 2012
:) - Cordobesa, Jan 25, 2012
Shouldn't that be "se tendrá" or "tendrás"? - Qwertie, Jan 25, 2012
Tendrá (usted), tendrás (tú) o se tendrá (impersonal). Puedes usar las tres :) - Cordobesa, Jan 26, 2012

alt text Es muy agradable oír la música de fondo, cuando lees y descansas pero puede estorbar cuando trabajas.

It is very pleasant to listen to background music when you read or rest, but it can disturb when you are working.

I would normally not say "the" background in this sentence. - Yeser007, Jan 25, 2012
Gracias Cordobesa - porcupine7, Jan 25, 2012
Gary you are right, but that is the task fondo=background - porcupine7, Jan 25, 2012
typo in backGround. I would also leave out "the" before the word background since you are speaking in general... unless you are emphasizing it. - katydew, Jan 25, 2012

MI6, there is just something about the English that doesn't work. In the US we would be more likely to say ...investigate to the bottom of this, why the clients (patients is better) are ill. - Yeser007, Jan 25, 2012
Hello Mi6, I think it is a grammatically correct sentence (except "de los doctores") but I'm not completely sure about its meaning - Cordobesa, Jan 25, 2012
@Yeser Your suggestion "to the bottom of this" is much better, thanks. But here we address people as clients and necessarily as patients. Not everybody likes that....the are using paid care and so are clients. But thanks for the suggestion I will - 00434ec3, Jan 25, 2012
