Welcome to the forum. I'm unsure of what you're asking. Which word in comparison to what? Or are you asking how to say "to meet someone for the first time"? - Goldie_Miel, Jan 23, 2012
I would go with "conocer" =) - NikkiLR, Jan 23, 2012

To meet someone

(by arrangement) quedar con, verse con (by chance) encontrarse con, tropezarse con

but

(=get to know, be introduced to) conocer

I never met him no lo llegué a conocer

I met my wife in 1988 conocí a mi mujer en 1988

meet my brother quiero presentarte a mi hermano

The verb used for meeting someone is conocer. If you want to say that you met someone for the first time, you could say: Conocí a (name) por primera vez. Or just conjugate "conocer" for whatever tense and person you desire to use.

A mi mujer y yo conocimos en una sala de bailar hace 54 años. My wife and I met in a dance hall 54 years ago.
