Question regarding sentence structure

Question

How would I say for instance, "It was a nice place to visit," or "It was an interesting book to read?"

The part I'd like to know is should I use para before "to visit" and "to read" or de, or simply visitar or leer.

say " era un lugar agradable para visitar" y " fue un libro interesante para leer"

I used para in these cases because para translates as "for the purpose of", so "it was a good place for the purpose of visiting" and " it was an interesting book for the purpose of reading"... but "i like to read" would be " me gusta leer" no para...see the difference?
