Hola,

I have the following sentence: Estoy sentado. No estoy parado. I wonder whether I can change it to Estoy sentando. No estoy parando.

Muchas gracias

The only difference is that one is a state of being (condition) while the other is an action.

True, but in these two examples, the reflexive must be used - 005faa61, Jan 22, 2012

Sentando doesn't work. I don't know about parando, but sentando would refer to a minute amount of time and would rarely apply. Please await other answers, I'm not reliable.

It works, Annie, ie: Te estás sentando / Me estoy parando - 005faa61, Jan 22, 2012
Yes, you're right. Thanks Julian. - annierats, Jan 22, 2012
For some reason I thought it meant the act of seating yourself. Idiota, como normal. - annierats, Jan 22, 2012

Estoy sentado = I am seated.

Estoy parado = I am stopped. I dont think it works with stood in this case..

Estoy sentando = I am sitting.

Estoy parando = I am stopping or I am standing.

I don't believe the reflexive is needed in any of these. as the actions are completed.
