French site
SpanishDict has been a great forum.
I tried Rosetta Stone Level 1 and got nowhere fast. I could not understand the why our when things changed ie gender, and conjugation.
SpanishDict answered those questions and now I can use Rosetta Stone effectively.

My son would like to learn French but we have not found a website ( free ) similar in quality to SpanishDict.
Has anyone found one that they would like to share ????

Unfortunately, there isn't a FrenchDict.
However, you can check out the sites listed here. As it says, though, not all are free.
If you do a search on the forum, you'll find many more helpful answers since questions like this one has been asked before.
Wordreference.com is a good place for several languages...it's not quite as "fun" as SpanishDict.com, but you can definitely get good responses to serious grammar questions...and, chances are, your question has been asked there a gazillion times already. I usually just type my phrase right into their search box with the correct language-to-language selected (e.g., English-French, if I'm typing in an English phrase and want the French equivalent). The top results will be dictionary entries that may apply or help. But scroll all the way down to the bottom of the results and you will find forum results for your phrase, if there are any.
This site memerise has sets in many different languages including French. Check out this thread and go to the French section of the site indicated.
I can recommend one called Yabla that helps with French. I cannot promise that it is free nor completely vouch for how good it is. It is similar to LoMásTv which is a good site.
Two others that I also use from time to timeare Busuu.com and LiveMocha.com They are very good and some of the facilities of these sites are free including natives willing to correct your French. They may well expect you to help correct their English in return. You do not have to help everyone of course.
