Thread = Hilo?

Question

I was thinking about this because I've never seen the word "Hilo" used in a Spanish forum. I just remember to have seen the words "Post" or "Thread"(yes, we use those words), never "Hilo". In fact, when I came here and saw the word hilo I didn't know what you were talking about.

Let me give an example, when I started certain class in college, I had to join to a workgroup and a member of it send this mail to me and to the other members, to keep in contact:

Bueno, gente. Acá estamos todos los del grupo, en cuanto nos den el primer TP arrancamos las discusiones acerca del mismo en este mismo thread. O como prefieran.

I just did a quick search and found this. Try searching the words"hilos/foros" and you will be able to see many Spanish language forums which use this word.

When I talking about forums I used to saying "post". In the case of that mail I would have say just " en este mismo mail." Although "thread" makes more sense hehe (sorry for the late answer) - ale_rd, Jan 22, 2012

En España también usamos "hilo". Sin embargo, en los 4 años que llevo interviniendo en un foro aquí, nunca he visto que nadie use "thread"

Yes thread hilo, forum foro. It's weird to me that he said thread there in your message. El hilo del foro.

But I mean, unless in Argentina, nobody use that word in Spanish. Actually I knew what a Thread was, but I didn't have idea of what was an Hilo until get here - ale_rd, Jan 20, 2012
