Could you provide the rest of the rhyme? I know this is used to decide who will do something, but is there also a version that ends with counting?

Google "Letras de tin marin de do pingue" and you'll find it. There are lots of versions, I didn't know how to tell the original. Some were just a repaso of "Eenie Meenie Miney Moe".

My mother (que en paz descanse) was from Cuba. This is how she said it:

Tin marin de dos pingues. Cucara macara titiri fue. Paso la mula, paso Miguel. Mira a ver quien fue. Cuantas patas tiene un gato? Ciento cuarenta y cuatro. Cuantas patas tienen un buey? Ciento cuarenta y seis. La manzana se pasea de la mesa al comedor. No la partes con cuchillo. Parte la con te-ne-DOR!
