What does "total" badges represent?

When I look at the badges that I've earned, there is one column for the ones that I've earned and another column labeled "total." For example it shows a "Total" of 7418 next to "good question."

Is 7418 the all-time number of good questions that have been asked, or is it for the past year (or maybe year-to-date)?

Thank you.

That is the total number that have been awarded, to anyone, ever, for that particular badge. Some of the badges that are the top one for a week have smaller numbers (because only one can be given each week), some badges can only be earned once by a given individual. And some can be earned over and over, by the same and different people in the same week, so have higher numbers.
