P.S. Thank so much for your help!
I think the answer that it's a sound someone might make when putting a child to sleep has hit the proverbial nail on the head. The word is in a song I'm teaching my fourth and fifth grade students, and the chorus of the song talks about a little child going to sleep. No translation was provided for that one word, however, and my students and I were curious to know what it meant. Now I know why it wasn't translated. It's just a cooing sound.
Welcome to the forum!
I am interested in other people's answers to your question, but I have three thoughts that occur to me, none of which may be helpful.
Might it be some sort of abbreviated form of "arrullar"?
Might it be a modification of the sound that mule drivers use to get their mules to speed up? I have a vague memory of hearing mule drivers in some Spanish speaking country making those general types of sounds.
If you can provide context, that would be helpful.
I will be interested in what answers other people provide.
Hello flutist, welcome to the Forum.
Perhaps you should provide the context where you heard this expression. It is not a standard Spanish word (else you could find it in our dictionary). Sounds like a noise someone might make when putting a child to sleep, or some such thing.
