Help please and review these!

Question

Complete these sentences with the preterite tense of the verbs in parentheses.

1 Liliana no ____ (poder) llegar a la fiesta de cumpleaños de Esteban.

2 Las chicas _____ (conocer) a muchos estudiantes en la biblioteca.

3 Raúl y Marta _____ (querer) no invitar al padre de Raúl a la boda.

4 Lina ____ (saber) ayer que sus tíos se van a divorciar.

5 (nosotros)_____(poder) regalarle una bicicleta a Marina.

6 María _____ (querer) cortar con su novio antes del verano.

Here's what i have and I don't think they are right but can someone review it for me?

Did you just guess or do you not understand verb conjugation? Not only are you using the wrong person, but sometimes not even the preterite tense.

1) Liliana is a the 3rd person singular subject

2) Las chicas is a 3rd person, plural subject

3) Raúl y Marta is a 3rd person, plural subject

4) Lina is a 3rd person, singular subject

5) Nosotros is a 1st person, plural subject

6) María is a 3rd person, singular subject.

How to do the first one as a model:

• 1) look up the verb's conjugation using the conjugation feature or the dictionary
• 2) Look under the perterit tense column
• 3) Find the correct form for the person of the subject (Liliana= 3rd pers., singular or él, ella, usted)

It's good to see that you've posted your attempt JMH but all of them are wrong, perhaps you should go and look over your lesson again and then have another go.

No 2 and 3 are in the imperfect form and the rest are in the wrong person.

This means that you need to match who is doing the action with the correct conjugation. You can do this by saying ok - I have been given 'Maria' in one sentence' now which pronoun best fits Maria? yo/I, tú/you, él, ella or usted/ he,she,you etc. Surely it would be she/ella.

Then when you look at the conjugate verb list you will choose the right subject/person (ella) out of the 'preterite' section.

Raúl y Marta no quisimos invitar al padre de Raúl a la boda.

To be 1st person, plural (nosotros) it must be Someone y yo....

Raúl y Marta (they or 3rd person, plural) uses the ellos, ellas, ustedes person.

Raúl y Marta no quisieron....
