Pls. Help me with this phrase: "Mendigo frío".

Question

I saw this phrase on a Facebook status today.

"Mendigo frío". I know mendigo means beggar, but I don't know how this phrase relates to what I am assuming has to do with weather.

If the person was from Mexico it means "damn cold."

"Mendigo" in Spain is a person who begs for money, but I think that in Mexico it means "bad, auwful" too. Perhaps someone from Mexico could explain it better to us. I suppose that in Spain you could say something like: "¡Qué asco de frío!

you can also say : maldito frío

Or simply use the "F" word...

Note the difference:

Mendigo ..... beggar / brown-noser

Méndigo ...... Bad person / low-life

Literally, I think it simply means ....cold beggar (un frio mendigo)

mendigo/a as an adjective can mean tightfisted, or stingy.

It could be an idiom/colloquialism but if it is I am not familiar with it! I did not see such an idiom in my dictionnary either Let's wait for confirmation /to see what other people say, especially natives
