Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs should not be longer than 1 1/2 lines but can have up to 3 line for practice.
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.

Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

My Example:

Una vez compré una novia por un precio económico. Sin embargo, más tarde me di cuenta de que el acuerdo fue un engaño. ¡Qué terrible!

Once I bought a bride for a cheap price. However I later realized that the deal was a trick. How awful!

Algunas personas (como yo por ejemplo) creen que si comen algo en secreto no se contaría las calorías . Se podía decir que es un engaño pero creo que la ignorancia es felicidad.

Some people (like me for one) believe that if you eat something in secret the calories don't matter. You could say that it's a deception but I think ignorance is bliss.

Hoy en día los lobos llevan traje para ponernos en ridículo con sus engaños tramposos. Se llaman banqueros.

Nowadays the wolves wear suits to fool us with their deceptive tricks, and they are called bankers.

Cuando mis abuelos comenzaron a navegar por Internet, se les advertí de muchos engaños... lo siento, abuelito, no hay un príncipe de Nigeria quien que quiera te darte dinero.

When my grandparents began surfing the internet, I warned them of the many scams... sorry, Pop-pop, there is no Nigerian prince who wants to give you money.

Well, I gave it some thought, but as Escher died some 40 years ago I opted for the pretérito indefinido. Is it possible that 'era' contains a slightly different shade of meaning? - Castor77, Jan 18, 2012
Its your call, Castor..depends on what the speaker wants to convey..I think your explanation supports the use of preterit. - drvicente, Jan 18, 2012

El juego de los trileros es un engaño muy muy viejo, aun así, hay gente que sigue cayendo!! grrr

The "shell game" is a very old trick, even then, there are people who still keep on falling!

With drVicente's corrections:

The shell game is a very old trick even now there are people who still keep falling for it.

Funny thing, as I learn more Spanish, I find my English word order to change too. It's actually not a big deal, it is understandable, just not proper. - EL_MAG0, Jan 18, 2012
