¿Cuál sería una mejor traducción para esta frase? Los estudiantes pasarían su examen si estudiaran.

The students would pass their test/exam if they were to study.

or

The students would pass their exam if they were to have studied.

Gracias.

The students would pass their test/exam if they were to study.

is the correct translation.

The students would pass their exam if they were to have studied.

Is quite a convoluted sentence, and quite archaic. In Spanish, it could possibly be,

Los alumnos pasarían la prueba si fueran (estuvieran?) haber estudiado.

But then again, that might be complete gibberish.

The second one is a very strange mixture of the second and third conditional in English. It looks very silly. - rabbitwho, Jan 17, 2012
The third conditional in English / Past conditional in Spanish would be "si hubieran estudiado". - rabbitwho, Jan 17, 2012
