Sentido de carcajada

Sentido de carcajada

I have a question about carcajada.

I always thought that carcajada was closer to guffaw that laughter, the implication being that the word carries with it the sense of mocking laughter.

To me as well, Jeremias, I think of it as very loud and rather heartless laughter, but I may be wrong. - annierats, Jan 15, 2012

I think guffaw is a good definition, but I've never thought it carried any negative connotation. To me, they both mean a sudden outburst of laughter...

I'll wait to see what the natives say about "carcajadas" but I can tell you that "guffaw" isn't necessarily mocking or mean spirited. It's just loud and boisterous!

I don't see that nuance mentioned in its definition.

carcajada.

(Voz onomat.).

  1. f. Risa impetuosa y ruidosa.

a ~ tendida.

  1. loc. adv. Con risa estrepitosa y prolongada.

Nor in the definition of guffaw.
