Why so impatient? A follow-up to Why So Snappy?

Hi friends! Thanks for reading this.

It's time for a little rant cheese

A couple months back, I made this thread after being upset after reading some rude comments.

Now, something else disturbing has caught my attention.

It's a trend I've seen developing mostly in new members, but there have been some 300 or 400 pointers, too. It's gone a little something like this:

# of views and still no reply?!

I'm not naming names and I'm not linking the posts where I've seen this, but I'm bringing this to attention to the forum.

This makes me so angry, I don't even know where to start.

My first thought when I see this is to flag, but I know that's probably not the right thing to do. Instead, I'll try and say "patience is key!", but clearly, this has become a recurring problem since I've joined SpanishDict.

We are a learning community here. We aren't timed on the forum. SpanishDict has nearly 735,000 users here. In retrospect, 50 or 70 views isn't that much. And for all we know, someone could be typing a great answer that is taking time during those 50-70 views.

If you are going to come onto this friendly, helpful forum and be impatient, then in my opinion, you can just stop logging in. I am so thankful everyday to have people like DrVicente, Coffeelate, Cogu, Nelson_Rafael, Kiwi_Girl, Heidita, Izanoni, Q, unMica, Jeremias...the list goes on and on and on...in my life, well my laptop. When I see Why hasn't anyone replied yet, it does not show the respect that these correctors deserve.

Forgive me for being so blunt, but I'm going to make this statement loud and clear.

Impatience will not be tolerated here.

If you are upset that after 12 views, your question hasn't been answered and get impatient, then you can go somewhere. But...where? Oh yes, right, there is nothing else on the entire Internet like SpanishDict.

Something as wise and priceless like the responses of the kind-hearted and caring members of this forum are worth waiting for.

Sorry for my rant, folks, but I needed to share wink

People must remember that when they write their question they are on local time and the other half of the world is probably still in bed! Members who can always be relied upon to respond usually have jobs, go on holiday, suffer from sickness etc.so are not always available. Yes, have patience an answer will normally turn up. This impatience could be why we have had so many duplicate posts recently.

Nice rant. Maybe we need a "Isla de Retumbantes" thread on the forum.

When I see stuff like that, I just shrug my shoulders. Otherwise, I might reply with condescending tones. I did that once, though with as much humor as I could find under the circumstances, and didn't feel any better for doing it. smile

Great post Sonrisa.

Many of those 40 or 50 people may not know the answer, do people want a ream of useless comments or do they want to wait for a while for a useful response? Maybe they think SD is staffed with people who are paid to sit here 24/7.
