I am interested in the term Peninsulares. I am wondering what the word in singular form is? If that is possible? But, also, am wondering if this word in a singular form distinguishes between men and women. I am interested in referring to a woman in this case. Is there such a word. That is my question. Thanks in advance. Teresa Yugar

I thought this term was only used in Latin America, but I am obviously mistaken. In old Mexico peninsulares is a historic term referring to those (aristocracy) of pure Spanish blood, who were born in Spain. It was a big class distinction (16th, 17th,18th centuries). Even pure blood Spaniards born in Mexico were of a lesser class.

Wouldn't the singular be peninsular?

Unless (which I doubt) you insist on including the female(s) of Portugal, what's wrong with "española(s)"? Of course, if you're referring to some other peninsula, perhaps, "floridiana(s)/"coreana(s), etc.
