German Shepherds can also carry packs,, pack animal has two meanings: a member or a pack or a carrier of packs. - annierats, Jan 13, 2012

Based on the context of your question, it is.

  • Pack animals = Manada de animales, or animales en manada. It can also mean...

  • Animal de carga, or bestia de carga. The first one would be my choice.

Doesn't that mean that they are pack animals like pack mules, or pack horses, camels, etc.. They are beasts of burden. Here the pack means they live in packs like wolves. - 0074b507, Jan 13, 2012
I agree with qfreed. Animales los quien andar juntos. jajaja. I really have no idea. Good question. - gringojrf, Jan 13, 2012
It means both. Pack horses carry pack saddles. Wolves are pack animals. Horses live in herds. - annierats, Jan 13, 2012
Actually, you guys are right¡ I guess I didn't read well! It really means both, but yes the question was about "schooling","herd" - farallon7, Jan 13, 2012
Fallaron, schooling is different, you can , rarely, have a school of animals. Very rare! To school a horse, means to train it.. Totally different. This is an interesting question. - annierats, Jan 13, 2012

animales que viven en manadas In English that would be "herd" animals (cows, horses) more than "pack" animals which usually means wolves, dogs, et. al.

manada

1) f. Conjunto de ciertos animales de una misma especie que andan reunidos. Manada de pavos, de lobos.

In English we differentiate into schools (marine life), flocks (birds, sheep), herds (elephant, horses, cows, buffalo, zebra, etc.), packs (wolves, dogs), prides (lion), etc.. I'm sure Spanish does something similar so manada may be too general for "pack", even though, it is used with dogs, wolves.

The pack horse carries a pack, however.. - annierats, Jan 13, 2012
Yes, but my point was that I don't think beasts of burden was the context used in the original question. - 0074b507, Jan 13, 2012
I know, but the difference should be explained, I think. - annierats, Jan 13, 2012

If you mean a group of animals, such as a pack of wolves, it is manada de lobos. If is a herd of swine ( pigs) I think it is rebaño or piara.

If it is a pack animal, carrying a pack saddle, as they do in the wild west, it is a caballo de carga or, it could just be a ''mula'', or a payponi ( I've heard this in Spain , referring to foreign workers in agriculture,) not very polite.
