If you enter "concha" into the translate box you will get your answer, at least for certain regions. It is not nice at all..... sorry. In English, at least, it is a very nasty thing to say and there's no tone of voice that would make it any less so. Your friend may have picked up this word without knowing exactly what it means (although I kind of doubt it), or she may not be able/want to explain it to you.

Armed with this information, you could ask her again what she is saying to/about you to find out if it is as bad in Spanish as it is in English. Either way, I'd ask her to stop! Good luck!

It's nearly impossible to tell. We need to know where your friend is from for starters. The same words can have very different meanings from one country to the next, even from one region of a country to another. Not to mention some people just invent their own words.

And also tell your friend to try a lot harder to explain it to you. Ask for the closest word in English, a synonym in Spanish, whatever. She can tell you something, at the very least whether or not it's a positive term.

If you manage to get a synonym then come back and let us know.

Here is a perfect example of the need for context and correct spelling. Conch and concha are different words with very different meanings but only one letter difference in spelling.

Sorry, Gringo. I think conch and concha are English and Spanish equivalents. Have you ever seen a conch shell? - ajaks, Jan 12, 2012
Concha is generic in Spanish for shell and many other things as well. However Conch in English is a specific animal Makes great chowder. - gringojrf, Jan 30, 2013

In 1830's Conchs were Bahamians that fled Bahama to Key West to avoid persecution, since people born in Key West, as the majority of my family and I were, are called Conchs.

In english conch also has other meanings, as does concha in spanish but they are not the same. Do a google search on slang conch. - gringojrf, Jan 13, 2012
I did as you suggested Gringo. Yuk! Urban Dict has 20 definitions, only three of which I would consider benign. The rest range from disparaging to grotesque. All I can say is, if someone used that term on me and it didn't sound "friendly" and ..... - ajaks, Jan 13, 2012
....she refused to give me an explanation, I'd be mighty suspicious! I guess it's down to the two people involved. - ajaks, Jan 13, 2012

Where are you? I believe that in the carribean this is similar to gringo in mexico. It is a word used to describe and with the proper tone (to be derogatory) of your origins.

All my friends in Mexico call me gringo but without the derogatory tone so I have no problem with the word. Others do.
