Question

To be in a bad mood (a transitory state)

Or

To be an ill-tempered person (who is always in a bad mood).

In other words, I'm searching for shades of meaning here, not the general meaning.

Tener malas pulgas...an ill tempered person, a characteristic of that person.

Estar de malas pulgas...a temporary state.

So it is the verb that changes the meaning slightly, tener and estar.

Have a look at this short story, jeje, very explicit.

Marta: ¡Menudo alboroto que había hoy en la escalera! ¿Lo has visto, Rylan?

Rylan: ¿Que si lo he visto? ¡Uf! La bulla se oía desde la esquina de la calle. ¿Sabes qué ha pasado?

Marta: Algo sin importancia. Ha empezado con el perro del vecino del primero que tiene muy malas pulgas.

Rylan: ¿Malas pulgas? Es que ¿hay pulgas buenas y malas? Que yo sepa, si el perro tiene pulgas … todas deben ser malas para el perro, ¿no?

Marta: Quiero decir que el perro tiene un carácter muy malo. Ladraba a todos los vecinos, enseñando los dientes…creo que hasta tenía los ojos rojos. ¡Daba miedo!

Soy una persona de maldad ( I'm a nasty person) y soy malhechadora por la influencia funesta( evil influence) que me molesta.( This is supposed to mean I do nasty things because I was damaged by the influence of evil people..)
