In Zafón's "Sombra del viento", Fermín is speaking to Daniel saying:
--La madred naturaleza es una grandísima furcia, ésa es la triste realidad --dijo-- . Valor y al toro.
What does the author mean here other than the literal translation of the words?

Maybe - Face your fears ... don't run from your fears ... Face up to it!

It seems to me that its trying to say "face your fears or move on, that is the sad reality." That's only a rough translation however.
