What techniques do you use to help memorize vocabulary?

Memorization has been studied, and there are some theories about how to do it best. There are three stages: initial learning, committing to short term memory, committing to long term memory.
I know of two sites where you can create your own word lists and study them based on these principles. The first is Orangeorapple.com, the second memrise.com. I prefer the first because there is an iphone ap and you can study your vocab lists from your iphone. It's a little technical to use (to make vocab lists, upload them to the site and download them to your phone), but trust me, if I can figure it out you can, too. The second is more straightforward but only has computer access.
Good luck!
I use the flashcard feature here. I then also write out sentences using the new words/phrases.
I like www.memrise.com I find the constant repitition is a great way of getting the words to really stick.
I try to make sentences. If possible I repeat the word over several days. I also use it in e-mails or , if necessary, imaginary mental e-mails to imaginary friends. I have a very poor memory for flashcards, I have discovered, but a good memory for words in context. I think you have to just find a way that works for you. Listen to whatever conversation, TV, tapes or anything at all, it makes a difference over a period of time.
Good luck!
I repeat the word and its meaning many times and I write them down in a notebook and look over the list of vocabulary every day.
HI mizu, welcome to the forum![]()
Please have a look on the search engine for previous threads on this topic, thanks a lot.
We have excellent flashcards at your disposal.
I use memrise.com as well, but for verbs I also use conjuegamos.com! It has a great way of letting you drill the conjugations of whichever type of verb you need so that you memorize it in just a few minutes.
