I am not completely sure about the adjectives "thin" and "wide" in this context.

A Cd is thinner than a book.

A book is thicker than a Cd.

A book is wider than a Cd.

A Cd is thinner than a book. - Perfect, the example explains the meaning.

A book is thicker than a Cd. - Also perfect.

A book is wider than a Cd. - Usually true, although there are tiny books that are not as wide as a CD. 'Wide' refers to the extents of a physical object, how large it is side to side. It can also be figurative and refer to the extents of an idea - its breadth and scope.
