Qué Significa "dar a uno la gana de?"

I'm sure there might be a coloquial and even x rated answer to that, but the face idea behind the idiomatic expression is "to have the will to"

as in [person x i.e. friend/mother], sube al apartamento y ve por tu chamarra... (Go on up to the apartment/flat and pick up your jacket) [person y:i.e the one receiving the suggestion/instruction] no me da la gana (don't feel like it)

Body language: Grimmace/ Shrug the shoulders and shake your head left/right.

No me da la gana = no quiero

Question: ¿Dónde vas? Answer: no me da la gana de decírtelo. But "no me da la gana de decírtelo" is a rude way of saying "no quiero decírtelo". You are usually angry when you say this but not always, of course.

For example: Yo soy diferente. No me da la gana levantarme temprano, no me da la gana ir a donde todo el mundo va de vacaciones, no me da la gana ser como todo el mundo y hacer lo que hace todo el mundo. (Perhaps you are not angry when you say that. You could say this quietly).

No tengo ganas de.. often translates more as : I don't feel like it.

Dar ganas a uno de hacer algo, or dar a uno la gana de .. to me means to inspire one with the desire to do something.. or , to ' make one feel like doing it, to give one the will to do it...

the standard is "no tener ganas de" I don't want to. same thing I guess like ------- said no quiero.
