Let's play a game where we say a word that sounds like what it is- like maullar- to meow sounds like a cat yowling.

some others? to scratch? peel rubber? blow out? Everybody's contribution is fun.

I have always thought the English word "soup" qualified as onomatopoeia on account of the noise one makes when slurping one's soup... I suppose the same can be said of sopa allowing for some liberty! Picture someone over a bowl of caldo and slurping the hot goodness, then following with "ahhh" over doing so!

A stretch, I know, but hey... just a game right?! tongue laugh

lol I just had to try..... and guess what? You're right! Of course, I myself don't snore.... but I know other people who do! :D - ajaks, Jan 7, 2012
I'm alady and ladies never snore, nor sweat, of course. We may possibly perspire very slightly.. - annierats, Jan 7, 2012
@annie: I believe the saying goes something like: "Horses sweat, men perspire and women glow!" :) - cristalino, Jan 7, 2012
You're right cristalino, ladies can't perspire, I'm not really a lady, just a woman. - annierats, Jan 7, 2012
First of all, just a woman is an oxymoron. Secondly, of course you're a lady, annierats .... you're Our Lady of the Witty Retort! :D - ajaks, Jan 7, 2012
Lol, I really am a most serious person. - annierats, Jan 8, 2012

I think what you're looking for is called a cognate words such as: attacar (to attack) durar (duration)

No, cognates are words that sound similar in both languages. This thread is about onomatopoeia - words that sound like or are somehow evocative of their meaning. - ajaks, Jan 9, 2012
