I want to know how to say to try for instances such as "He tried to organize a group to rebel." "I try hard" Is there a difference in verbs or is there one word for the verb try. I saw the spanishdict translation as probar and I want to confirm with any native speakers or great spanish speakers. Thank you

I am neither of these, but I think I can help you.

To try

You have two formulas:

Tratar de + infinitivo

Intentar a + infinitivo

Tratar conjugation

Intentar conjugation

He tried to organize a group to rebel.

I would say...

Trató de organizar un grupo para rebelarse.

No "a" after "intentar" =) -- Intentar hacer algo - NikkiLR, Jan 5, 2012

Also in the preterite querer = tried. No querer = did not try

Quise venir a tu fiesta. I tried to come to your party.

ella no quiso venir a tu fiesta. She did not try (or she refused) to come to your party.
