fue or estaba
I am confused when it comes to using fui or estaba
eg. "I was invited to the party"
"fui invtada a la fiesta" or "yo estaba invitada a la fiesta"

Estaba means you were invited, and fue (passive voice) means somebody invited you (basically, it's passive). Estar is more usual, but you could say "fui invitado por Miguel" and use passive voice. Also "Fui invitado" could mean "I was a guest".
I would say "Estuve invitado a la fiesta," because it was a one time event. Ex: I was invited to the party, but I was not continuously invited. I was just invited once. As with the fact of using ser/estar, I am not sure. I'm sure a native will correct me here. ![]()
I think you would use the verb ser which is used for the passive form and say;
Fui invitado (por María) a la fiesta
= I was invited to the party (by Maria)
You could also rephrase it, be more specific and say:
Me han invitado a la fiesta
= They invited me to the party

"Yo fui invitado a la fiesta." I was invited to the party.
The action (being invited) has already occurred at a definite time in the past.
I can see estaba + invitar in the present progressive:
"Yo estaba invitando Marí a mi casa por nadar, cuando realizó que va a llover esta tarde." "I was inviting Marí to come swimming at my house, when I realized that it was going to rain this afternoon."
..or perhaps as such?
"El bosque se lo estaba invitando para entrar, pero a nadie les podrían saber que un monstruo vivía para adentro..." "The woods were beckoning them to enter, but no one could have known that a monster lived inside..."
Correct as needed, please ![]()
