The dictionary only gives shingles as the medical term. But what are shingles on a roof?

In addition to Gringojrf's response:

Tejas de asfalto laminado are asphalt shingles.

Tejas de madeira would be wood shingles, such as those made from red cedar.

Shingles as we know them in the US are almost non existant in Mexico.

Our roofs " techos are built in a different way.

Gekkosan has it for " tejas de madera"

But the clay barrel tile is most common in the north changing to simple and effective " thatch" in the south.

" tejas de barro" is what we use for a clay barrel tile roof ( at least in the north)

Tejas is used in Mexico for tile shingles. Not sure about the flat asbestos kind.
