Basically it is the languages spoken in the various regions of Spain located on the Iberian peninsula. Each region has its own unique customs as well as language.To name a few: Gallego, Catalonian, Basque, Castilian.Valencian,etc. Spain is a very diverse! - drvicente, Jan 2, 2012

Izanoni's response provides the basic meaning (origin/usual sense) of the expression. However, it should be noted that, as with all but the tiniest countries, there are a variety of dialects of Spanish represented in Spain (as well as, several languages that are not Spanish).
