Adding another language to your profile...

Question

I know that alot of the people on this site speak more than just English and/or Spanish. My question is, is there any way to add another language to your profile?

For example, say I spoke fluent French and English and was learning Spanish.

I ask a question, but the person who replies speaks fluent Spanish and French, very little English.

Wouldn't it be useful if we could list all the languages we speak on our profile? That way I would see that this person spoke French, and I could communicate with them in French to get my question answered.

We are certainly a global community here at spanishdict and I think it would be nice to recognize that.

Also, it would help broaden the site's appeal (in my opinion).

To be clear, I'm not saying we should start posting questions in Russian or Mandarin Chinese all of a sudden, this is a Spanish/English learning site, but I do think it would help to connect with fluent speakers of onther languages as well.

Plus, you would get to show off your other language accomplishments!

Opportunities to flaunt the fact that one is a citizen of the world are always welcome!

The are some minor technical problems. e.g. If predesignated slots are provided, how many should there be? The only recourse, at present, is to provide such information in the free-form area entitled "about". Probably the main obstacle would be that many members cannot even be persuaded to indicate their native languages (which is certainly very important to understanding/responding to questions).

Ah, true. putting an "other" box where you fill in your language is not a great idea (look at facebook! XD) Secondly-your point about the privacy issues and worries of members...hmm..I would say make the other language choices optional, the only ones... - kiersten11, Dec 31, 2011

Hi:

When I came to SpanishDict.com it was to learn Spanish and I'm grateful that's it's free.

In all the lessons I tried, the teaching language always was American English. But I am sure (from the students nicknames) that the learners come from all over the world and not only from the United States of America. Some may speak German, Japanese, Turkish, etc.

English is not my native language but if I needed an explication in any other language, I guest I would only have to request it in my question.

That's only my opinion (and I haven't try to test it). If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will be happy to point it to me. Then we will all know.
