In the USA, the 25th and 50th anniverary of being married are significant life milestones (hitos). More so now given the increasing divorce rate but that is another topic.
As noted in previous post....the 25th anniversary of being married (to the same person of course) is called the Silver Anniverary and the 50th anniverary is called the Golden Anniverary.
Both are celbrated with family, friends, etc. but "sobre todo" are reasons to celebrate love and committment in a married relationhsip.
If you are speaking specifically to your either "Silver" or "Golden Anniversary"....congratulations. If for another couple"......I wish them the best and congratulationsl.
Silver Wedding Anniversary. Sounds kind of beautiful to me. In America we give a gift for each year that a person is married, paper, wood, etc. so silver is pretty darned beautiful, 50 isn't it?
I think that silver wedding anniversay [bodas de plata] is the more poetic reference than calling it el vigésimoquinto aniversario de boda.
quincuagésimo aniversario (de cincuenta años) de boda
These gifts vary in different countries, but some years have well-established connections now common to most nations: 5th Wooden, 10th Tin, 15th Crystal, 20th China, 25th Silver, 30th Pearl, 40th Ruby, 50th Golden, 60th Diamond. The tradition may have originated in medieval Germany where, if a married couple lived to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their wedding, the wife was presented by her friends and neighbours with a silver wreath to congratulate them for the good fortune that had prolonged the lives of the couple for so many years. On celebration of the 50th, the wife received a wreath of gold.
Gold or silver wedding anniversary is normal, beautiful or not! You're right.
