Hi,

I know the question has been answered with:

de = of / from

con = with

but this doesn't explain this:

el hombre de barba larga

el hombre con la cámera de fotos

Can you help?

Thx, Gerry

You are going to have problems learning the language if you insist on literal translation of words. There are words in Spanish that are sometimes not even translated into English like the personal "a" or the redundant i.o.

Le di el libro a Juan.

I gave John the book. (neither the le nor the a is translated)

I gave the book to John. (the le is not translated)

Es el libro de John.

It is John's book. (the de is not translated)

You need to learn how the Spanish constructions work and not try to literally translate the meaning of each word in the construction into a similar English expression.
