Thanks very much!
This is very clear - thanks!!
it has many uses, the examples thay have been giving you are fine.
it can be used when you're tired. ex. ¡uf, no puedo más! etc...
but it have no real meaning.
Hi Ken,
Uf!! is like the Spanish equivalent of exclaiming "gosh!" It's like a filler. It's not a real word in Spanish, just a way of expressing exasperation. ¿Me explico?
Hola,
Yes, "¡uf! means "I'm really surprised", as in "He leído su currículum, tiene diez páginas en letra pequeña, ¡uf!"
I would say it also means "this is tiring!, "this is difficult!", "this is tough"; for instance,
- ¡Uf! Ya llevo tres horas estudiando.
- ¡Uf! Este libro es un galimatías, no hay quien lo entienda.
- ¡Uf! No me aclaro con esto de las nuevas tecnologías.
- Su español es muy difícil de entender, ¡uf!
Hope it helps

Thanks Heidita - your cats are lovely too.
Now I am not sure my friend said he is surprised my Spainish is 'manly'. Maybe my English is not.
Saludos!
Ken , you have a lovely dog.
Yes, uf is an exclamation. It means something like: well, I am really surprised!!
saludos
This is very rude, Lorena!!!
First: stop shouting!
And second: if you have no reply, simply don't answer.
Thanks - the whole sentence is 'Your Spainish is very 'manly'... uf!!!'
Sounds like some sort of exclaimation to me.
For future reference Clay, it is better if you put your question in the header (instead of "I want to know what this phrase means" you should have put: "Porfis Ayudame a portarme bien"...and then in the body you can explain why you are answering. Just makes things cleaner.
