In a more operative sense," manipulatives" are any means and/or methods utilized to achieve physical, or psychological objectives. The bundling of home mortages can be seen as a manipulative.

Subliminal messages are also manipulatives. - kmaakheru, Dec 29, 2011

Manipulative as in the adjective that describes a person who is scheming, cunning, etc., is manipulador/a. Manipulative meaning the jargon term invented by education educators to mean something students handle to help them learn is another matter. I can't find it in my dictionaries, probably because it's not a real English word. It's jargon.

I don't think it is jargon, juts that "ive" as "ation" ending gives the meaning to the root word "manipulate" - chileno, Dec 29, 2011
The only place I've ever run across it is in my master's degree classes on education, along with the word "ideate". It may be in the dictionary now, but it's jargon. - KevinB, Dec 29, 2011
The question begs context of usage; neither definition nor origin. - kmaakheru, Dec 29, 2011
