Hola mis amigos,

I looked in the the dictionary for both words. Well, both words mean Boat, while Barca means a small boat. I wonder whether there is a certain structure in Spanish were a something is converted from masculine to feminine in order to make it smaller?

Muchas gracias

I don't believe this is grammatical, although there could be other examples. I think it's just something with this particular word. There are other common words for a small boat, especially a rowboat or small motorboat, namely lancha. There's a teasing expression among kids, that one is 'ancha como una lancha'.
