Is "radio," as in a radio that plays music, a masculine or feminine noun in Spanish? I previously learned that it was "el radio" but I saw a set of flashcards on here that had it listed as "la radio." When I looked it up in the in the dictionary it actually has it listed as both. Please advise.

"El radio" is the radio apparatus and "la radio" is the medium... the broadcasting system.

In Spanish, a distinction is made between the machine and the content that it transmits.

Enciendo el radio. = I turn on the radio. (the apparatus)

Apago el radio. = I turn off the radio.

Escucha la radio. = I listen to the radio. (the content; the transmission)

Hi!!

The right way to say it is La Radio.

there's a lot of definitions for "Radio" in Spanish. and depending on what you wanna say you use LA or EL. Here some examples:

EL Radio (a chemical element on the periodic table.) EL Radio (bone) LA radiofrecuencia (RF) LA Radio por internet, (Internet Radio) LOS Radios (geology) EL receptor de radio (the radio where you listen to music) EL Radio (geometry) EL Radio (wheel)

Bye! =)
