How to say " I have to go."

How to say " I have to go."

I would say

"Tengo que ir." I'm fairly positive that is the correct format for most situations like "Tengo que leer mi libro. But I'm sitting here studying spanish and I just recalled that I asked that same question to a friend from puerto rico and he said something completely different although I do not recall what that was.

So, is "Tengo que ir" correct?

If you are reading this question and its replies with any interest, this would be a good time to review the SpanishDict reference page about the verbs 'ir' and 'irse' or in English, 'to go' and 'to leave'.

Here is the reference page ----> ir-vs-irse

Hi!!

The best way to say it is: "Me tengo que ir".

Tengo que irme. Use the reflexive verb irse.
